So this morning I got up around 5 to do my workout and decided I’d do one of my circuit workouts that I used to teach.
The last few weeks I just haven’t felt like doing any strength training. I’ve been doing treadmill workouts instead. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love me some cardio. I miss running (outside) so much. It’s one of my favorite forms of exercise. BUT I also love to incorporate strength training into my workouts. I love feeling strong and lean and you can’t achieve that by just doing cardio.
So this is the workout I did…
And I thought I was going to die. OMG. Talk about out of shape.
I’m glad I’ve been doing something, rather than nothing, but this was a huge wake up call. The treadmill isn’t going to cut it alone.
Exercise is very important to me and it’s especially important to me during pregnancy. With Hayden I was still teaching my circuit training classes until 36 weeks and then I swam a few times those last two weeks before he was born. I did a post about my thoughts on pregnancy and exercise after I had given birth. You can read it here.
This time around I’m not teaching my classes anymore and yes, I am busier than ever, but I am making it my goal to not let those things be an excuse for putting mine and the baby’s health on the back burner. I know that my pregnancy, delivery, and recovery will only be easier if I stick to my workout plan.
I should also mention that my Doctor is very much in agreement with me exercising and really stresses the importance of that as well as healthy eating. I had no limitations last time, as long as I was listening to my body (which I did). This time Dr. C actually told me that the national health yada yada has decided to lift all limitations for exercise from women during pregnancy to encourage women to stay active, which I think is wonderful! So many women use pregnancy as an excuse to push exercise aside.
So here’s to getting off the treadmill (at least a few days a week) and focusing on keeping up my strength. After all…those carseats are heavy! 🙂
Oh yeah and I’m hoping to be one of those women that sneezes and the baby comes flying out this time 😉
