Vacationing Properly This Summer
Can you believe the kids are already going back to school soon? It may seem like the summer has flown by, but in fact there are still ample opportunities to get out and enjoy a fun family vacation. With just a little research and planning, your summer getaway can be exciting and stress free.
1. Don’t Worry About Packing Diapers
We’ve all been there; the suitcase is too full and little by little we start pulling out items and determining in our head whether it is worth bringing or not. Spare yourself some of the headache when packing by ordering diapers to be delivered to your destination so you don’t have to pack any! You can order diapers from diapers.com to be delivered directly to your vacation lodging, and with free next-day shipping!
2. Research Your Hotel(s)
You may think that when it comes to booking a hotel, the search should start and end at the price tag. While getting a good deal in a room is most definitely important, there are numerous aspects that should go into considering your room a “good deal.” Be sure your room has a refrigerator and microwave—this will assist you greatly in being able to heat up left over meals and to store drinks and snacks. Eating at restaurants every meal can be very pricey, and being able to eat leftovers or small snacks will save you money. Before my family finally settled down in Chicago, it used to be one of our favorite places to visit. When determining where to stay in the Chicago, we would look through sites like Gogobot that offered not just the price and a brief description of the hotel, but user-reviews and comments about the hotels.
2. Disposable Cameras
Take as many pictures as you can while on vacation. Looking back on these memories is a fantastic way to conjure up the warm feelings inside that came with your vacation. Make sure you bring your camera and an extra battery or charger, and go even further by allowing your kids to take their own photos this vacation! Provide them with their own disposable cameras and encourage them to document the vacation. Your children will love this opportunity to have the autonomy to photograph whatever they like, and you will see a real interest sparked inside them.
3. Integrate Play and Tourism
While it is easy to think the kids are simply endless bounds of energy, they need rest incorporated into the schedule. Beyond just scheduling some downtime every so often throughout the day, remembers that too many activities that only interest you will result in some cranky little ones. Incorporating activities the kids enjoy, as well as some time to rest, will pay off in large dividends later on. It doesn’t have to be complicated. Just a few minutes in a grassy area can suffice.
4. Diversify Your Hotel Search
A common factor to the business district in almost every major city is that hotel rates drop on the weekends. If you are planning a weekend getaway or incorporating a stop into your bigger itinerary, booking in the business district can get you a very nice hotel room at a great price. Another plus is transportation. If a city has great public transportation, it’s a good bet that it courses through the business district and there will not be as much crowding.
Remember, you want your late-summer vacation to be stress free. Just a little planning on your part can make this happen. Start planning now and let the family know it’s time for a great vacation!
