Have you heard of Operation Christmas Child?
I participated in it during college and now our church participates as well.
Samaritan’s Purse is an organization lead by Franklin Graham (Billy Graham’s son) that provides “spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world”.
One of the main things Samaritan’s Purse does is Operation Christmas Child which provides a shoe box full of items, both necessities and gifts, to children around the world during the Christmas season.
During our campus worship service last week the Pastor was talking about Operation Christmas Child and the impact that it can have on children around the world. He said that providing a shoebox for a child is like giving them a little piece of Heaven.
This really struck a cord with me. How amazing is it that I have the opportunity to share a little piece of Heaven with a child who might not ever get the chance to know anything about Jesus otherwise.
These children live in poverty. They are hungry. They are thirsty. When they receive that box from Operation Christmas Child, they are shown the love of Jesus. They have hope.
If you’ve never heard about Operation Christmas Child, I ask you to check out the website. It’s such an amazing opportunity and a great way to spread the Word around the world!
As we look forward to the Holiday season it’s easy to get wrapped up in all of the glitz and glam, but the REAL reason for the season is the celebration of Jesus’ birth. What a better way to celebrate that than to share His love with a child.
Share a little piece of Heaven.
