So remember how I was planning on running that half marathon on October 15th….
Well…it was cancelled.
I got an email from the event staff saying that because of all the flooding on the Missouri River, half of the course was under water so it was cancelled for this year. I was sooooo not happy.
This has been a goal of mine for a long time and I feel like I am in probably close to the best shape of my life and who knows where I’ll be next year?? So what do I do?
Enter the Sioux Falls Half Marathon. I had originally thought about running this one but there was one problem…one of my close girlfriends from high school is getting married the day before it. So I ruled it out completely. There was no way I was going to want to skip the dance and all the fun with my old high school pals to drive to the city, spend the night and wake up early in the morning to run 13.1 miles.
Well, guess what I am doing now?
Skipping the dance, driving to the city, and waking up early in the morning to run 13.1 miles.
And it is in 17 days.
I just couldn’t imagine not doing it. I just know I would have been so disappointed in myself if I didn’t.
So last weekend I went to the city with Robbie for his guard drill. I woke up early, went down to the Hotel exercise room and ran 8 miles on a treadmill.
Now, if you have been reading my blog for awhile you know how much I loathe the “dreadmill.” I just knew it had to be done though. The worst part was, this room was tiny! After I shut the door and had been running for awhile it turned into a MAJOR sweatbox. I think I went through 3 towels, no joke.
Oh yeah and to make it better, I FORGOT my iPod. Who does that?! Thank God there was a TV in there…that had 2 channels. Saturday morning cartoons and CNN.
So I got my fix of world news and hammered out 8 miles. I felt so good. At about mile 6 I seriously contemplated stopping because I was bored, but I was like, ya know what is 2 more miles?
I had to laugh at the calories because after 999 it starts back over at 1. Don’t think I’ve ever had that happen before.
I can’t believe I am sharing this picture with y’all but this just proves how HOT it was in that tiny little room. You should have seen my back!
So this weekend I have 10 miles on the agenda. Can I do it?
I woke up this morning with the start of a cold and I am NOT happy about it. I am just praying I feel good enough to get the miles in.
Robbie’s cousin is getting married Saturday too so I would really appreciate not being under the weather.
So anyway…Half Marathon. 17 days. Here I go.
